Gus's Cafe
Established in 1967, Gus's Cafe has since become a Canberra institution. When Gus emigrated from Vienna in the 60's he brought a slice of home with him; continental outdoor dining in a relaxed and open environment in the heart of the city.
Whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner, Gus's features an extensive menu and is sure to have something to suit even the most obscure of palates.
We were Canberra's first outdoor cafe where people have met for generations, our commitment to quality food and relaxing atmosphere has ensured that Gus's Cafe will continue to be the place to meet for generations to come.

This relaxed cafe is spread across three alternative seating environments - inside, in a streetside gazebo or outside. It's informal with reliable food. Service can be a bit chaotic and I'd advise you to pay attention as mistakes can be made. Drinks seem to take ages, but food isn't too long. I've had a couple of visits. Salads, bruschetta and sandwiches are all fine.
This is a very relaxed and welcoming cafe. The environment is conducive to a leisurely visit and the atrium area is really pleasant. I enjoyed some Sourdough with vine-ripened tomatoes and a Grilled Marinated Chicken Salad for dinner. Both were very nice, perhaps a little heavy on the olive oil for my taste, but otherwise good. The serving of chicken was generous and the balance of flavours in the vine-ripened cherry tomatoes infused with garlic was good. Overall, it's a nice cafe. Thank you.
