Opened close to thirty years ago by Indian cuisine enthusiast Vijay Lamba, Doncaster East's 'Haveli' restaurant remains a firm favourite amongst locals and visitors who make a weekly pilgrimage into the Melbourne burbs for a south Indian Sunday lunch.
The restaurant is situated in Doncaster East's shopping square, so parking is no problem. A perfect place to stop off for lunch after picking up the weekly groceries. Try their prize winning butter chicken (cooked using a secret family recipe) or a spicy vindaloo.

This is a hidden little gem in the suburbs if you are vegetarian or after vegetarian fare. On a Sunday Haveli offer a vegetarian buffet (they also have the regular menu if you have meat lovers with you.) The menu has been the same each time I have attended which is a little disappointing but it doesn't bother me too much as the menu offered is different to any other Indian restaurant I have tried. So it's exciting none the less.
The starter is a spicy soup offered by the friendly staff who also assisted me the first few times on what the items at the buffet were and how to eat them (condiments, breads etc) There is another lentil and vegetable soup at the buffet, there is a tomato rice, veggie pancakes, another potato filled crepe arrives at your table while you dine, there are a selection of sauces and chutneys too and there is always a dessert too.
Very friendly staff and when I see Indians eating in the restaurant I can only assume it's authentic cuisine.
