It is disappointing that the only review on this site is 5 years old and they have gone through several management changes. The current management team has been dealing with a kitchen fire in December and has just opened their Wilderness Lounge which is fantastic. So comfortable and warm in front of a wood fire. Furniture has been completely updated to be modern and sophisticated, yet leather and comfortable including a section for children with a cupboard full of games. You can see through the windows into the restaurant and kitchen at the work taking place. The staff are extremely helpful and regularly check on you, talking about what is coming and you can see they are very excited. Should be open no later than 1 June 2023 is the report. Can't wait to come back and see what it is like. On their website, I note they are a current Australian Good Food Guide Winner!
The lobby/bar area at Hellyers Restaurant is the only place at the Wilderness Resort where you are suppose to be able to get WIFI reception, so the restaurant draws quite a few people to its bar then restaurant, but you will be extremely disappointed with the WIFI as it is extremely slow. Hellyers Bar offers hot beverages as well as a drinks menu which has lots of lovely wine options which are reasonably priced drinks, but the venue is so unwelcoming. It was a super cold day when I visited and even though they have a fire/heating in bar/restaurant they never put the heating on. People came and went quite quickly as it was so cold. Staff are disinterested, cold and unwelcoming venue, it was warmer and more exciting to stay in your own cabin. The food is good, and the menu is varied so there is something for everyone to choose from, however it is very expensive especially when you add on the additional costs for chips and salads to go with your meal.
