Classic French cuisine with a breezy beach feel. On face value, the menu couldn’t get more French if if tried: steak tartare, croque monsieur, cheese plates, you get it, however if you dig a little deeper, you’ll find there’s more than meets the eye. The Tarte Flambée ($15) is a thin crusted pizza with bacon, herbs and marinated onions – proving the simple things go the distance. You could say the same about the pot of Mussels Marinières ($25). It isn’t such a bad thing that they’re truly served ‘sailor style’ with only hints of flavour and beards still intact. Whether you go for the seaside looks or the leather bound books– you’re in for a good feed. The old man and the sea would both be proud.
This quirky cafe is located on North Steyne and overlooks Manly Beach. There are lots of pictures of Ernest Hemingway and obviously the inspiration for this cafe. It was a glorious day and the sunshine was out so there were lots of people about. This cafe attracted both a lot of dine in and takeaway customers. On a beautiful sunny day at Manly, this cafe was filled with people, conversations and abundant tables of delicious looking food. The menu has a variety of dishes to choose from for breakfast/brunch with a French influence including salmon crepes, cassoulet & croque madame. I skip these & opt for the "good Girl 2.0" which sounded abundant, tasty & healthy. It did not disappoint with the plate arriving heaving with smoked salmon, mushrooms, kale, goats curd, salsa, toast & topped with a perfectly poached egg. It is generous & delicious. Then there is the avocado toast with marinated feta & tomato salsa. Again it was generous & tasty & the addition of a poached egg was perfect. I tried a Tumeric latte to see what the fuss is about and have to say I am not a fan despite its so called health benefits. The latte was much more palatable & a good coffee at that. The dishes are generous & delicious but on the pricey side. Service is friendly & relaxed which suits a beach ...read more
