Arrived early and had a reservation. Reservations on Fridays are a must at this place as the locals swarm from 6pm onwards.
Why 2 stars? The service was reasonable, yes. The food.... Was not.
My mother and I ordered surf and turf, as it was the cheapest steak option on a Friday - $29. I ordered medium rare and my mum ordered medium well done. Both came back medium well done although mum's looked more medium and mine looked and tasted more well done. I can let that pass somewhat, as I've all but given up ordering steaks in Brisbane pubs and restaurants. I'm just glad I didn't pay for the more expensive steak, only to have it over cooked.
My biggest gripe was the "bowl of seasonal vegetables" which consisted of a few beans and a few stalks of brocollini. Literally. That was all that was in ...read more
My family went to Hogan's for lunch and it was terrible. My mum and I got the seafood plate
and it looked nice BUT there was 2 prawns, about 10 squid rings, a few chips and a battered fish. Firstly the prawns there was 2, and the batter tasted like dirt, the squid rings, they were rubbery (like an elastic band), the chips were nice and the fish, the batter again was disgusting but the fish was not cooked AT ALL! It was flaky and must of been cooked from frozen. The worst thing was it tasted like DIRT!
WAIT, theres more, My dad got the meal of the day which battered fish with chips and prawns. The fish was barramundi and it was undercooked badly, the 3 prawns were soggy and the chips were okay.
So it is very poor seafood.
So, I am never ever, ever, ever, ever, ever going there ever, ever, ever, ever, ever again, ever. Never ever. Never, ever, ever.
Unless your going there for beer/ drinks and chips. :)
We highly recommend the Wellington Point Hotel, and in particular Hogans (their restaurant) for you dining pleasure. From their all day menu with a great burger; to their fine dining menu in the evening, this is a great high quality bistro. There is an excellent section of specials (and they have huge kids meals, which include a free drink). The wine list is extensive and the beer is always cold. You can sit inside and enjoy the atmosphere, or you can sit out on the verandah and take in the fantastic view of the water. More than a local watering hole - Highly recommended!
