Second time proved to be a charm at Holy Duck! After visiting this newcomer in January, I returned earlier this month to check out their updated menu. With the crew behind Chefs Gallery supplementing the menu of barbequed and roasted meats with vegetable dishes and a host of rice and noodle options, my first impression was that it’s now much easier to design a balanced meal at this holy temple of duck.
I’m also pleased to see they took the hint and added a small list of craft beer and wine… if there’s anything rich barbequed meats call for, it’s booze to cut the fat and help wash them ...read more
Having a bit of an obsession with eating duck this week, Holy Duck fit the bill (no pun intended) for dinner! Located near Spice Alley on Kensington Street. For dine in, take a seat and they will take your order and bring your food to you. We originally waited at the counter thinking you had to order there. The service was very friendly and managed the busy restaurant well. The menu has a range of duck dishes with pork and chicken making lots of appearances too.
We had Ducken Delicious Pancakes. These pancakes contained small chunks of duck with cucumber and spring onion. There seemed to be a bit too much orange hoisin sauce which made it a slightly soggy. The Duck Yeah Spring Roll had a good combination of duck and vegetables. Came out hot and crunchy. ...read more
Around the corner from the popular hawker-style outlets of Spice Alley, Holy Duck! is the latest new entry for Chippendale’s eat street. It’s a modern, stylish space with a chop shop up front, and a kitchen in the rear. Despite the upmarket setting, the menu is an unusual hybrid of Aussie takeaway shop and modern Chinese, taking on everything from sliced whole duck to burgers, to hand-held items you can buy and eat on the run. While the What the Duck! Burger ($16) is hard to go past, what with a branded bun holding all the same contents as a traditional duck pancake sitting alongside a handful of compelling duck-salt, shoestring fries, the chop shop commands attention. I settle on a tray of Roast Holy Duck! ($24/half) and throw in some Mandarin Pancakes ($8) to eat it with. It arrives on a board, gleaming but stone cold, with pickles and a small pot of their signature duck sauce. The duck is flavoursome but fatty, and with only a Qoo White Grape Juice ($3.50) to ...read more
If you love duck you must visit this place. Showcasing a variety duck menu items in Modern chinese cooking seems to take off in the heart of Chippendale.
Try the crispy peking duck and tou will have your minds blown. Also they have a lunch selection special with burgers and fries .... But its not how you know it. Chinese style burgers taste not bad!!
Until next time .... Keep eating!!!
It’s a decent basic menu at Holy Duck. It does what it does well but for me it’s too simple. This would be ideal to bring the family to, an upmarket duck fast food joint? And if I lived nearby I would happily grab some duck takeaway on the way home for a Friday night Blu Ray night dinner but for a duck appreciation venue it’s lacking. Where is the next level duck experience to make me dry hump my flatlay in a culinary frenzy? It’s good but it’s nowhere close to mind blowing. It provided a duck fix like a self pleasuring – it will never be as good as a decent ducking!
