I just did a recent trip to Sydney for the weekend with a friend and right near to where my friends apartment is is Hotstar Large Fried Chicken. I've had Hot Star before back in Adelaide so knew what it tasted like, and although I like to try new things especially if I am in another state, I was hungry and I knew that I wouldn't be disappointed if I had purchased a Hot Star Chicken for myself. I wasn't wrong there - tasted delicious and no regrets!
This is one of my favourite fried chicken!!! I mean it's bad when my gym is close by to this place!! :( but I'd love to get a spicy chicken !! It's so good!! Now it's make me craving for it again!! The price is a bit high for just fried chicken but it was worth it !! Around $8-$9!!!
I crave this chicken... and I'm not talking about walking past and thinking 'oh, I might have some chicken since it is here..."...I mean I grab friends and we walk 20 minutes across the city to this shop to get chicken...
In fact it was in Melbourne that i had my first experience of the fried deliciousness that is Hot Star, and will never forget my first experience. You are given a plastic bag when you order, you wait and when they call your number, you stand there, bag open, waiting for the cook to place a piping hot, giant piece of deep fried chicken goodness into your bag. I recommend getting spicy (NOT extra spicy, which become a powdery mess of blandness)... You want the original taste of those yummy 5 spices and then a hint of chilli. The fried mushrooms are juicy and are not your run of the mill mushrooms, these are a mixture of mushroom varieties and taste pretty much like the chicken, but you feel like you are having some kind of veges... kinda... Come here and try it!
I had this in Hong Kong and it was great! Unfortunately I couldn't say the same about it here. Not sure how it could be any different really but it was better overseas than here. I found it was too oily to start off with, It'll be good if shared between about 4 people but all to yourself is too much. The flavouring is on par with Hong Kong, pricing definitely isn't but that's to no surprise.
The annoying thing about this is the bones inside, maybe if it didn't have the bones then it wouldn't be too annoying to eat after you use a tissue to soak up all the oil.
I wouldn't go back, and only recommend a tiny portion of it, not the whole thing for one.
