This place was so busy during the dinner time we had to queue for about 20-25 mins. Once in we weren't disappointed with our dishes, we would recommend the shanghai and steams prawn pork dumplings and the stir fry noodles. It's also BYO which was great with corkage per person.
It’s great that it’s BYO here, otherwise they’ll lose out to the competition nearby which are all BYO. A little pricier than other dumpling houses nearby, but you get what you pay for. The quality of the dumplings here are noticeably different, well worth the higher price. The chilli won ton dumplings are a must, and the pork pan fried dumplings. The shao long bao here is average which is a shame because every thing else is good. If you want something other than dumplings, I recommend the pekking noodles with meat sauce. One thing I didn’t like about this was at the end when we went to pay, the man that came to give us the bill was so persistent on a tip. I normally give tips, but the fact that he would ask for it made me not give it. I don’t like when people are so persistent on a tip.
I came here last night for a friend's hens night and we had 2 tables booked and a banquet menu. The food was incredibly declicious and such great quality. The xiaolong bao's were soupy and hot, skin was thin but it didn't break when I picked it up. The chilli wontons here are incredibly noteworthy as well. We ended up with too much food but still had a great time. They were very accommodating with your BYO wine, which we hardly got through bc the food was so good here. Will definitely be back again.
I've eaten plenty of dumplings at plenty of restaurants and i have my hand on heart that Hu Tong is one of the best. We were here for a team lunch and we were warned by other colleagues that the service was going to be terrible but the dumplings will make up for it. In fact i have to disagree about the service because i believe and felt we were treated very good and the dumplings, wow, absolutely yummy, delicious, juicy, fresh and full of flavour. My favourite is the wonton in chilli. I probably ate like 10 of those. Then the old time classic is the Xiao Long Bao. I also probably ate at least 8 of those. With or without the dipling sauces, these dumplings tastes good on its own. My boss made a good statement that he is going to order an army of dumplings and requires an army to eat it and indeed without doubt, the team ate it all without hesitation. Must eat, must try, must be back.
