What a relief! It turns out that hotel breakfast doesn't have to:
a) be boring
b) come from under a retractable cloche
c) be reserved for in-house guests
Here at Hotel Urban Hub Cafe serves up brunch and lunch that's on par with some of Melbourne's best. In case you didn't know, Melburnians are cafe and coffee obsessed, seriously, brunch is far more than just a piece of dry toast and some generic jam! At Hub you'll find Genovese coffee, a third generation, family-owned Melbourne roasted and blended drop that's fierce in flavour, just as intended. You'll find a menu split into Classics and Modern Takes so you can be sure we'll have your taste buds covered. Hub cafe is not just for guests, so feel free to meet your friends and family here if they're in the area.
Had a great night out on the Fitzroy Street strip? Leave the car at home and check into the Urban Hotel. Cool retro touches like the Tivoli audio bedside radio, Aveda products and a fab shot of St Kilda Pier decorates the lift. Slippers are printed to read ‘slow down’ and robes say ‘tie me up’. Perfect location, nice rooms. A stone throw from the beach, and plenty of good restaurants around. Pretty decent prices if you book smart (discount/last minute websites). Downside: Management not on top of things. Stayed for six nights and had to contact front of house on several occasions because things were missing from our room. Took two days before I got the extra towels I requested.
On the upside: when we advised our bed was broken on the first day, we were immediately offered a different room.
Downside: got calls from housekeeping at 9am on three mornings to check with us what time we were leaving so they could get our room done. Not nice!
I've stayed here four times in the past year, and each and every time I have been pleased. The staff are very friendly, and always happy to help with any request. The room rates are terrific for the location - which is awesome if you want to be close to the action. The rooms are surprisingly quiet for such a busy location, and I've always enjoyed a terrific night's sleep. The urban snorer beds are sensational - you can buy them too, which my husband and I have seriously considered doing! There are two tram stops right out the front - taking you directly to the city, or over to Fitzroy / Brunswick, so it's very handy if you want to have a day on the north side of the river! Moments from St Kilda beach, it's great for morning walks / jogs beside the ocean.
