My partner and I went here and would NEVER return!! The place is far from secluded and private and the management is the rudest Ive ever met!! There is no curtains on the place.. Only stayed one night even though we paid for two because the bed was sagging and gave us both a bad nights sleep and sore backs and when we asked for any kind of refund or offer the management was very rude and told us it wasn't their problem! For $300 per night it was a big waste of money!! Not even worth $50 a night.
Our cottages are private with ample curtains and blinds, comfortably furnished and none of our beds sag in the middle. Possums often come to visit after dark and most of our guests enjoy them and they have become quite tame. We take pride in our little romantic retreat and are very upset when any guest is not happy for whatever reason. We have never been rude to anyone as this would not be advantageous to us. When this guest was not happy after the first night we offered an upgrade to a cottage with a king bed and when that was refused we offered the same upgrade at a future time, which was also refused. Giving refunds when already half way through a stay is something no business would do. We don't think refusing a refund is rude, just normal business practice. We consider the offer of an upgrade or a repeat visit in the future to be generous. The guest admitted to start with that the already bad back was the reason for lack of sleep and ...read more
True you did offer another room and to stay another night another time but when I explained that I felt it was intrusive that you don't have blinds on the back door which allows you to see straight into the shower or a curtain on the front door which anybody could walk up to at any stage and look in and see you in the shower or in bed you rather rudely told me that I was the first to complain
I then said that if you wouldn't refund even half of ones night stay( mind you I told you this a 7 am) and I wasn't happy with the place, I asked if I could send my parents or some friends to come back another time you flatly refused in quite an arrogant tone.. Which was unreasonable and bad business. So in the end I was out of pocket $300 and had to be spoken to in a degrading matter. I didn't even eat any of the "complimentary" food items so that I wouldn't put you out of pocket .. All round bad service and rude approach to the situation..left a very bad taste in my mouth and has ruined any chances of me returning to montville again.
My partner and I went to Hunchy Hideaway to celebrate our 2 year anniversary and having stayed at similar styled places before we were quite excited. However, once we arrived this excitement quickly faded.
The cabin was covered in a thick layer of dust, even the ceiling fan had a thick black layer upon it. All the glasswear and crockery had to be thoroughly washed before it could even be used. The shower was covered in mould, and the spa bath jets all had built up lime scale which also affected the outdoor shower. The BBQ was also filthy to the point that my partner spend 20 minutes trying to scrub it clean and it still wasnt in any condition to cook in. It was obvious the cabin hadnt ...read more
Please read our detailed response to this review on Trip Advisor. This site only allows 1000 characters and we felt we needed more than that to respond to this rather confronting and nasty review.
We do feel that we meet, and indeed often exceed, the expectations of most of our guests and all of the reviews already posted here and on Trip Advisor reflect that. We hope that our response to the criticism in this review is sufficient to help others understand that we live in a living, breathing rainforest, not a city with its slick bug and possum free environment.
Please read all of our other reviews as we feel that they are a more fair and accurate reflection of who we are and what we do.
Thanks

I had the exact same problem!!! Not to mention the possums being so aggressive we couldnt even sit outside!!! And when we confronted they told us we were the first to complain!! Disgusting!!
Was lucky enough to be taken here for a romantic getaway. Several secluded stand alone cabins to choose from. Ours had beautiful wooden internal features. Self contained. Simultaneously rustic and luxurious.
Fireplace already primed and ready to be lit. A sunken ensuite stepping down from the bedroom containing a spa bath for two, and a double shower head showering area.
Thoughtful details throughout including chocolate, candles and roses. Extras can be personalised to suit including breakfast.
Close to lovely Montville for romantic dinners. Or stay in and cook your own.
Didn't want to leave!!
