Hyde Park Cafe

Came here for breakfast as it was one of the only Cafes open in the city on a Sunday morning. Fairly average food, not great service and the seating and cleanliness looses points here.

Tucked behind the corner main entrance of Museum train station is Hyde Park Caf. It has been almost ten years since my last visit, but this place has managed to maintain its charm and looks like nothing has changed. The atmosphere is kept to complement the beautiful park it is in, providing semi-outdoor canopy seats merging into the park as it goes further from the shop.

The shop itself looks like a take-away store with only a counter and a kitchen, and it is understandable that some people might think that it sells affordably priced meals. But unfortunately it is anything but.

Many of its mains for lunch, which ranges from seafood to pasta dishes, start from more than $25 (as per my visit), although some pasta dishes come with entre size that is a little less expensive. In terms of taste, the food was actually quite alright and the serving size was quite reasonable.

I have had very enjoyable lunch here on a beautiful Sydney day. Located so close to Martin Place, it's very easy and handy for lunch on a work day. The menu is not extensive, but the food is good. My companion and I shared the trio of dips, on this day they served Beetroot & Goats Cheese; Carrot & Coriander and a Pumpkin dip. Very nice. My companion's main was the Salmon & Swimmer Crab omelette, while I had the King Prawns, with a garden salad. The prawns were beautifully prepared and cooked (served cold) with a bed of leaves, avocado, tomato and dressing was very nice. Garden salad was a good size and fresh. The omelette was tasty, but the fish was a bit lost and lacked flavour balance. Good coffee, very friendly service and the timing was fine - about 75 minutes for lunch. A nice place.

Visited this cafe for the first time. The staff made a good impression and asked me immediately what I wanted - not left hanging like some other cafes. I was shown the menu and ordered a Hyde Park Special Burger to take away (despite the clean and neatly arranged tables and chairs available). They underpromise and overdeliver - told it would be a 10-minute wait but the food came in over 5 minutes. The burger had a nice serve of chips. A little pricey but sort of gourmet for what it is. It's a great location on a nice sunny 20-odd degree day. Great thing about this place is its location; convenient to get some food for a nice picnic in the park. The downside is the price; you don't get much change from $20 for a burger but they're in a premium spot, so it's expected. Nonetheless, would visit again.
