Ichi-ban Boshi
Located on the top floor of the Galleries Victoria on George St (opposite the QVB and in short walking distance from Town Hall), the famed 'Ichi-Ban Boshi' Japanese restaurant could have easily gone unnoticed by prospective diners. In truth, I only "discovered" it after taking a visit to it's neighbour, Kinokuniya bookstore.
Once you have discovered it you'll be hard pressed not to be making return visits, for great value for money Japanese cuisine right here in inner city Sydney. The large restaurant is almost always full of people, which makes how quickly they serve their food surprising to say the very least. Their menu contains an exhaustive list of ramen, udon and green tea ice cream (yum!)

Set within The Galeries Victoria, a hub for Japanese food and culture with its mix of Muji, Kinokinuya and Sushi Hotaru, you can rely on Ichi-ban Boshi for tasty, unfussy Japanese food.
Serving a decent selection of starters like sushi, sashimi, okonomiyaki and gyoza, you're spoilt for choice with the range of don buri, ramen, udon and fried noodles.
Note that payment is by cash only, but everything on the menu is reasonably priced.
Down to my last $10 bucks and the Beef Rice Bowl was soo good and the perfect substitute! Generous portion of beef and picklings on rice with the sauce and rendering fusing together to create a sauce beneath the meet and on top of the rice. Working through the layer in one bite was awesome but both elements work well as standalone items - great lunch actually!
