I really want to support local businesses, but unfortunately the markups at the Bruns IGA are just ridiculous. Mount Warning bacon at $29 per kg when I can get it from Sunny Side meats for $19 per kg. Insane! In my household alone we've started going to Coles in ocean shores for any shop over $50, the extra fuel cost is minor compared to the savings on products. Really sad. Also things like tobacco, it's $56 for a 25g of port royal from the Byron Bay Tobacconist, yet $68 at Bruns IGA. In the last year my household has avoided Bruns IGA for over $4000 of shopping. I've spoken to plenty of locals about it and they all share the same sentiment, they've said something about one of the managers being greedy but they're really shooting themselves in the foot. The selection is pretty decent which is a plus, but we are not going to spend an extra 10 to 20% on products just because it's closer. I really hope the owner of the store gets to see this and tries to win back the locals.
