This Spanish inspired winery is a breath of fresh air and after visiting the cellar door we left with a few bottles of everything. It is in a great location that perfectly capture the warm Hunter Valley afternoon sun and the interior and exterior peach, pink and natural colour palette lends to the overall Spanish ambiance of the space. When we went it was so busy, people arriving large group after large group. Our tasting was led by the owner who informed us that most of the people who visit Iron Gate Estate are there from a recommendation. We had been told to visit the vineyard by a friend, word of mouth obviously works for this fine boutique winery. Most of their wine bottles are corked, which is a pleasant and novel addition as nowadays, a lot of wines are screw tops. I went here on a winery tour and they were fantastic. The wine is beautiful and the tours are a lot of fun. The staff are great and will always have time to show you what you may or may not like. Be prepared to taste wines you would never taste as this is the way to appreciate the wines that you will find that you do like, you may even find a wine that you would have never bought if in the local botlo.
