Italian & Sons
Quickly becoming the destination for Old School Italian Cuisine in Canberra, Italian and Sons Vine e Cucina is a celebration of Italian eateries and their classic ambience. A traditional wood fire oven is the primary weapon in this restaurants arsenal, and also adds to the lively, friendly atmosphere. On the fringe of Canberras CBD, it is an excellent choice for lunch and dinner.

Had agreat dinner with 5 friends POssibly a little expensive but what do you expect for great food, good wine and service. MAy be a little noisy for some definitely not the place for a quiet romantic dinner be we enjoyed the atmosphere and did not feel like we had to have hushed conversationlike inother places.
One of, if not the best, Italian restaurant in Canberra. It is popular and busy and judging on these other reviews Canberran's obviously expect to have places to themselves! It can be a bit snobby but it is worth it for the well cooked, high quality food. The eggplant parma is amazing, pasta is perfectly cooked and the wine list extensive.
No BYO, yet wine list is expensive. Not much choice of food and priced high. And, it certainly doesn't ooze Italian when it comes to the serving sizes very small indeed.
The service is poor. Long waiting times (when tables are free). Even our order; entree, main and dessert went wrong and had to be fixed. When ordering a calamari dish (that is listed as an entre dish) as a main meal I was charged double (that is $30) for literally 6 tiny pieces of calamari on a few baby spinach leaves. When I queried the charge I was told by them look, for $15 difference I am not going to become richer, nor poorer, so its your choice as to whether you pay it or not, but what you got was a main size meal at the right price. Not even an attempt to apologise or clear up the situation, but rather a suck it up lady approach to dealing with dissatisfied customers.
Not a place I will be going back to in a hurry.
Don't bother!
Upon hearing great things about this restaurant we gave it a try. Initially it was quite good although the waiting staff seemed confused as to who was attending to our table. There is a no BYO policy, so we tried the Sicilian (house) wine ($28 a carafe) and to my surprise it was terrible, so much so we sent it back but still paid for 2 glasses. The entrees came and they were quite good. However the mains were not so good. I had the pasta dish with veal and the pasta was not cooked properly, I understand the concept of al dente, but this doesn't mean half cooked pasta. the veal was nice, shame that the pasta was so terrible. But the real downward moment was that they showed no interest in us when they noticed how unhappy we were with the meals. This was really disappointing and unprofessional, after all I even tipped the waiter and thanked him for his good service. I will never return and would never ever recommend this place to anyone who wants a good dining experience.
