While I know my pirozhki (filled Russian buns) from my blini (pancakes) I must admit to being a bit lost with Russian cakes. After a good sampling here, I got up to speed. The first thing that will impress you about the Medovik (or Honey Cake) is the perfectly straight and even biscuity layers, separated by airy vanilla-infused sour cream, and sweetened with honey. It’s the standout of the creamy cake collection, that ranges from the subtler Russia’s #1 Napoleon that intersperses flaky pastry and custard layers, to the namesake Izba, which arrives looking like a pyramid of cut logs constructed from dough-rolled Amarena cherries, glued together by yet more vanilla-infused sour cream.

OMG this cake shop is wonderful. Izba also has the Miss Russian Revolution cake and the White Russian dessert that are infused with Vodka and its highly recommended! If you havent been then go asap.

Vodka cake had be intrigued. This little joint offers delicious treats including their signature honey cake which is definitely a crowd favourite along with savoury items such as Blini (Russian pancakes) and pies. However, the vodka cakes are definitely worth trying out too. 'Miss Russian Revolution' was my favourite of the two as it was infused with berry flavours and every layer was the perfect complement to each other. 'The White russian' is a little stronger in alcoholic taste but still so creamy and delightful.
