So much hype, so little delivered. The food was average to say the least; the ultimate garlic bread was nothing special, prawn linguini was disappointing and small serving for the truffle "posh" chips. Wait staff were sloppy and unpleasant and not smile from them all night. I would not recommend eating here.
Honestly? Unimpressed. There is so much hype around this place but it just doesn't live up to Sydney's Italian standards in my opinion. A simple road test- the carbonara. Full of cream, like the Aussie cafeteria version and wholly not like the original. Not a whole lot of flavour either. Fine if that's what you want (and yes it was a big portion at least) but I'll be sticking with my usual Italian joints (and avoiding the two hour waits).
After attending this restaurant for a team lunch of 6, we were extremely disappointed to find out there for a booking of 6 or more incurs at 12.5% service fee. This is fine expect at no point along the booking process or going into the restaurant was this disclosed. The service itself was poor, with us having to ask multiple times for water which never came and then multiple times for the bill. The service would come to us then get caught up serving other tables and ignore our requests. When this was brought up with the waiter he was rude and made comments about how we got cheap pasta so what does it matter. Not the way to serve customers and not the way to encourage repeat service! WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.
To be told it'll be a 2 hour wait for a table of 4 or a 1 hour of wait for a table of 2 and then recieve the meals we got was a bit of a let down. The portions are on the generous side, which is nice but the flavour just isn't there.
During May, Jamie's was doing a $10 for the pasta of the week special (cabonara this week). it was thick, heavy, creamy and had no flavour whatsoever, sprinkled lightly with panchetta. Even doused in salt and pepper the dish was still really sub -par.
Not sure I'll be back to Jamie's! (Definitely not work $23+ on regular menu!)
Deliveroo Order: Was feeling a little pretentious today and had the SUPER FOOD SALAD (Grilled avocado, roasted beets, pulses & grains, kale, fennel, broccolini, pomegranate & toasted seeds with harissa dressing & artisan ricotta) and I couldn't decide between the desserts so ordered two out of the three on the menu. CREAMY PANNA COTTA: Vanilla panna cotta with a seasonal fruit compote & spiced crumble; and the APPLE & BLACKBERRY PAVLOVA: Gooey meringue with whipped mascarpone, macerated blackberries, apple compote & spiced crumbleHoly cow - the dessert is what seals the experience as one epic meal. It was nice to have a bit of Jamie Oliver in my day today!
