Junk Bar
Junk Bar is a hole in the wall bar in Ashgrove you just might miss if you're not looking hard enough.
The cosy bar features velvet couches, kitsch bar stools, plenty of lamps and a stag's head. It's basically a relaxing, homely joint to listen to good music while you enjoy a drink.
Doesn't get better than that!!
One of the newest additions to the Brisbane bar scene, Junk Bar is almost too cool for school. Owned and run by Jamie Trevaskis and Mia Goodwin of The Troubadour fame, entering Junk Bar is like stepping back in time. Wedged between a Chinese takeaway and a fast photo shop, inside you’ll find a thriving eclectic hub where comfy couches, stools and lamps mix with stag’s heads and velvet loveseats. The drinks menu might not be extensive but quality makes up for quantity. Be sure to try the ‘Junk Bar Cherry’ featuring a mix of fresh muddled cherries with Chambord, vanilla Galliano and cream. If you’re feeling peckish, there’s a delectable snack menu featuring goodies from the aforementioned Chinese place and neighbouring fish ‘n’ chip shop. Now that’s the makings of a good ...read more

It's hard to find a bar where you can sit down, relax, have a good cocktail and not be disturbed the drunkards. The classy bars are hard to find, but this one has so much character and it's tucked away in Ashgrove!
Walking past it during the day, you would never notice it. When you walk inside it's like you've stepped into a very groovy time-warp. The service is absolutely fantastic, if you go back for a second time, they remember you, your drink order and where you chose to sit.
Any time I feel like dressing funky and going out for some delicious/old school cocktails, Junk Bar is where I go!
When I first walked past I was curious and couldn't help but step through the doors to what I can only liken to a forest wonderland, complete with deer ;). The drinks were mixed to perfection and the food was just right. Haven't stopped thinking of it since, my new happy place
I am IN love with this bar. I have been here twice and each time was fabulous. The service is outstanding - even when it was packed full on a Friday night, the wait staff would go out of their way to seat you and keep the atmosphere relaxed and fun. The cocktails are absolutely divine, with some really unique options and spins on old classics. The food / snacks are great - seriously recommend the spring rolls and dumplings. Congratulations to to the owners of this amazing place, they are really doing Brisbane a favour. Check it out if you love vintage elegance, charm, funky old tunes, and chatting with strangers over great cocktails.
The strip mall equivalent of a TARDIS. Step into the unassuming door that looks like a closed down shop and you are transported back in time to the seventies. Where other bars might have some vintage inspiration, Junk Bar goes all out on creating an authentic experience. A record player is playing old Beach Boys, Steppenwolf and Jimi Hendrix through ancient speakers.
The place is decorated in pure kitch, from the photo wallpapers to the shaggy carpet to the stuffed animals. I recognised several items from my grandparents living room, surely transported there through the same time portal you've warped through.
The crowd is mature and alternative. Hipsters can't travel this far out on their fixies, and that benefits you. In fact I considered not reviewing this as it is tiny and one of the best kept secrets in Brisbane.
