Kedai Satay
186 King St
Melbourne, VIC, 3000
I enjoy revisiting places i have had good experience before. Kedai Satay is seems to be a regular spot now for having lunch with my work colleagues. It usually gets busy but given the service is quick and people clean up their plates because they are satisfied then they get up and leave to allow the next lot of customers to sit down. The flavours of the marinated meat is so good. I have been ordering without rice because the serving is fairly reasonable. Grilled or friend, i think i prefer the lamb over the chicken or beef. And all goes well with their version of chilli sauce. My friend ordered the curry and said it was really good. She was full and didn't finish it. If you are super hungry and close by here for lunch, try Kedai because the food comes out within 15 - 20 mins of the time you ordered. I can see the chef cooking away in the kitchen so they are constantly cooking the meat which comes out one after the other. Fresh and hot and juicy.
Cheap, cheerful and fast, this is a good place for Indonesian/Malaysian- style food. The food is lovely, although it doesn't always look as appetising as it could if it were slightly better-presented. I had the Ayam Penyet which was delicious but discovered that many people come for the ribs. Ribs are not really my thing but I hear they are very good here too. There is something here for everyone with vegetarian and vegan dishes and also halal. Staff is unfailingly polite and charming.
A friend of mine suggested to have lunch at Kedai Satay as we all felt like Malaysian food as we didn't have enough on our last trip to Malaysia. Very busy place for lunch but they have an outdoor area, upstairs floor and main floor. Kitchen is visible from the entrance and you pay first when you order. I ordered the lamb ribs on steam white rice but you do have an option of coconut rice as well. The serving is very generous and the flavours to the lamb ribs was absolutely delicious. Juicy and comes straight off the bone and goes really well with rice. I actually finished my whole plate as it was so good. My friend ordered the chicken on coconut rice and that was also a big serving which she didn't manage to finish but it also looked really good. Looking around i can see other people cleaning up their plates. For just under $15 i think is a very reasonable price for lunch especially when it tastes good and is big in the serving sizes. And the food comes out quickly as well.
