Its the place everyone (even my mum) in Sydney is talking about. Kitchen By Mike is a canteen (translation: hipster word for cafe) nestled in the Koskela showroom in Sydneys Rosebery. Even though its situated in what was once known as culinary no mans land it doesnt stop hipsters from all over Sydney coming in droves.
One tiny disclaimer: go early or expect to channel a driver at the Formula 1 because youll be doing laps to find a park not that it matters, for our fixie-riding-hipster friends. I jest, of ...read more
I'm a huge fan of this innovative eatery. The space is funky and homewears are available to purchase in a warehouse style environment, which is great for wandering around (especially as there isn't much else out in Rosebery). The food is surprisingly fantastic given it's a cafeteria style diner - but don't let that put you off, as they make it fresh and bring out every few minutes. The long communal tables are fun and give a good community vibe. It's definitely worth making the drive to! #reviewtowin
Parking is terrible here, but it's worth the wait (20mins doing laps through all the backstreets looking for someone leaving!) because the food and atmosphere is amazing. Imagine a big party where everyone brings a plate, and someone is cooking lamb on a spit... this is the feel of KBM but all the cooks are top chefs and everything is cooked perfectly, the lamb melts in your mouth, the salad vegies are crisp and fresh, little dessert slices and coffee - everything is just top notch. Best to get in early for lunch as there's always a big line - and maybe take a taxi.
Came here last weekend when it was pouring rain, expecting it'll be quiet...but it was the total opposite! Place was packed to the rafters. Had to wait 20mins in the queue - but it was well worth it. Salads were fresh and unique. We had the coleslaw, chickpeas & kale, chicken, pork belly and roast pumpkin. Everything was well-seasoned and fresh. It gave me an inspiration though - I was able to replicate it at home the next week and my family loved it. Great place to visit on a lazy Sunday!
