For some years my car has been serviced by E & D Koutalis Automotive Services trading under the Repco name at Granville NSW. I had a reconditioned engine installed by him and therefore the car had been serviced every 3 months. In January 2014 I was advised there was a problem with my steering rack. Later on when my car was serviced I asked about the problem with the steering rack and was told it was a minor leak.
In April 2015 when the car was being serviced I asked for the tyres to be rotated - I had purchased these tyres through him. At this time he decided to replace the steering rack. The tyre issue is more likely due to wheel (mis-)alignment, that can occur at any time and does not get mentioned in your history. You also didn't mention what his response was when you raised this with him. I know he takes pride in his work and his name, so am sure he would have been happy to at least discuss your grievance.
There is two ways to treat the problem once the mechanic tell you something wrong, either you fix it immediately or delay the fixing. If due to moneywise choose not to fix, then you hold all the consequences, and reasonable. If due to lazyness choose let it go, then you still hold all the consequences, and unforgiveable.
Repair also have two kinds of attitude, one is to fix whatever found and keep it in mint condition all the time as possible, other is to work the things that MUST fix at once...... both attitude are correct, but owner still hold all the consequences, not the repairers.
It appears there is some confursion about my review regarding the issue with the tyres. Koutalis supplied and fitted the tryes and did a wheel alignment . My car was regularly serviced by them every 3 months. It was more than a year afterwards that they mentioned the inside tread was wearing out. At this time the tyre was bald on the inside tread. Everytine they serviced the car they could see it and never said anything to me. When I complained all they were interested in was that I had to replace the tyres. They were aware of the issue for a long time. I complained to the Dept of Fair Trading. They found Koutalis liable and compensated me for my loss.
