I'm not sure what I'm reading on other reviews? As I have used Kunara fishing charters a number of times, as I use to arrange charters from Gosford and a group of us would travel from Gosford to Nelson bay and we would do one morning and one afternoon charter with Jim. We would always come back with lots of good fish. We use to noticed that other local fishing charters would follow us out and stay close by. I only stop booking charters with Jim is because of medical reasons.
But in the days when we were using Kunara charters Jim and his staff would always put us onto the fish and were helpful towards the new guys on their charters by helping them set up their rods and baits etc
If Kunara is still own by Jim Booth I would only give it high praise
The booking process is unprofessional by ringing their contact number and a staff takes your info and gives you bank details for the deposit of $150 for a 7.5hr fishing trip. They will not give you a confirmation and don't like it when you ring to confirm prior. At the boat they stuffed up the booking number and only hesitantly with the skipper took 13 out to fish which is 5 people too many. Wasted 3 hrs getting there and back and with 13 people tangles were the name of the day. The skipper is short fused and goes off with swearing when tangled lines happen. This was not enjoyable at all and we were glad to get off the boat. Went on a fishing charter out of Southwest Rocks and it was the total opposite to this. You will be disappointed!!!!.
Went on a short 5hr charter in November 2012. I do not recommend them at all. The person who takes the bookings is very rude and does not want to give a straight answer about anything but thinks they know everything. Fishing gear quite old and worn out the skipper positions the boat next to the reef and anchors rather than close to it or drifting as they don't want to loose any hooks and sinkers that might eat into their profits. This resulted is minimal fish caught only one decent sized snapper caught by 8 rods in 3 hours :-( Boat is very slow takes over one hour one way to get to the spots the skipper liked to fish at.
Skipper paranoid about anyone drinking more than one beer so don't bother bring alcohol if you go with these guys. I only went with them as everyone ...read more
In October i rang Kunara Fishing Charters and booked Feb 15 2011 for my fiance and Myself.
This was our Xmas present to each other for 2010.
On the monday afternoon they said the weather wasn't looking good so we will try tomorrow , So i called Tuesday afternoon and then they said try Wednesday so being a little frustrated i said so whats happening the weather is great then they said they didnt have enough people to go out fishing. Three days after i was booked in to go, And everyone else was booked out for the rest of the week. I traveled from Sydney to go Deep Sea Fishing and got stuffed up because they were to lazy and couldnt be bothered to inform me of the truth.
