Kwan Yen Restaurant
Had a hankering for Chinese & thought I'd give this one a try for the first time. Don't think I'll try them again. It's not so much that they were bad as there wasn't much to stand out. Some dishes were even unrecognisable as to what I'd expect from the many Chinese restaurants I've eaten at - fried rice was yellow, beef & black bean was with steak pieces, and honey chicken had cashews in it.
Staff were clearly flat out, I had takeaway & was glad I didn't eat in as they were rushing round noisily through the restaurant as I waited. Price was average, like the food.
We ordered take away from Kwan Yen and though I didn't expect much from a local Chinese restaurant - this was beyond awful. The fried rice was burnt. The chicken and sweet corn soup was awful (I've made it myself many times and can not understand how they made it so poorly!). The food was average and the meat was disgusting.
I refuse to ever eat there again.
I have been going to Kwan Yen for over 20 years now, and I am not sure if it has been run by the same people all that time, and I am not sure if perhaps I am biased - but I am always disappointed when I try Chinese dishes from other restaurants as they are never as good as this place!
I am an extremely fussy eater, and always order a beef and black bean. The meat is fantastic, no squeaky bits or fat, just really well cooked and flavorful meat, mixed through with crisp veg. My husband loves the honey chicken, and us and the kids are in love with their special fried rice.
Great service, ready in 15 minutes most nights, and a beautiful atmosphere if you eat in, though with time restrictions we do this less often.
I would recommend Kwan Yen to everyone!
