Brighton: Pathetic service. Not because they are inexperienced, rather - they behave as though one should be grateful you are actually being served. Further, it took 20 minutes for a simple coffee on a quiet Sunday afternoon. Placing items in the dishwasher and rearranging cakes appeared to be a greater priority than making a coffee- once I had paid for the item. After all that, coffee went in the trash. Dishwater is the most positive thing I can say about their coffee,
Although I confess to preferring Browns, Laurent is always charming and quintessentially French. I do find as a chain there is some variation between shops but this one is definitely one of the best in the chain. The service is cheerful and the decor is spacious. The menu is somewhat limited and the emphasis is on cake but if that's what you're after, you will find it here!
One of our favourite places to eat around Albert Park when we need a quick sandwhich. I can't go past their chicken and avocado focaccia with creamy mayonaise and walnuts. Grab a pastry and wander the shops, or pick up a crusty loaf of freshly baked bread for your weekend barbeque.
We have been seduced into buying cakes and other delicious items through a free taste test at the counter, but be warned, in each case, the product was very near to it's expiry date. On the most recent occasion, we got our $17 impulse bought cake home to discover it expired that same day and already had a small growth of mold on the side. We will be far more vigilant next time.
