I felt pretty uncomfortable eating here for the first time as there are no guidelines as to what you're supposed to do. The food was alright, but I think the other locations had more interesting menus. Location is great, in Abbotsford Convent, but I'm really not a fan of the giant quasi-spiritual mural staring down at me while I'm eating. . .
If it's a warm-fuzzy-feeling you're after, this is the place. A big sharing environment that is perfectly aligned with the values of this movement, I go here for lunch quite a bit and love that I can rely upon a nice plate of hearty vegetarian food. In summer it's really lovely to sit outside, there's plenty of outdoor seating. "Pay what you feel" is brilliant and they also train up volunteers to prepare and serve food, so you really are doing something GOOD. #reviewtowin
Nestled in the vast and beautiful Abbotsford Convent, Lentil as Anything is one of the loveliest dining establishments I have been lucky enough to visit. The decor is humble, arty, a bit student-esque and very relaxed, but certainly not dirty, dingy or untidy. Here, one can choose and serve their own food from a large selection of delicious and varied vegetarian dishes. Vegan and gluten free options are also labelled. This system means that you can try a bit of everything, then go back for seconds - thus experiencing the entire range, then specialising based on your palate! One can visit for a light snack or an all-you-can-eat no-holds-barred nosh up. As a carnivore I was amazed at the quality and variety of foods available - far from the limp salads and dull stir-fries that masquerade as vegetarian options at other restaurants, every dish was alive with colour, ...read more
This is an amazing place. There are no prices - you pay what you feel the meal is worth. Unfortunately, too many people take advantage of this as they are having trouble making money. It's a non profit organisation, the staff are volunteers and the money goes toward helping the community. The food is surprisingly good. I seriously recommend going there, and make a generous contribution as it's great food and a great philosophy.
