They didn't check all the relative certificates were supplied by the vendor and it wasn't until I called the builder for some information on another matter that I was told the house should not have been allowed to sell as he was holding the Occupancy Certificate. By law you need to have this certificate to legally live in your house.



I spent the next 18 months being tossed between conveyancer, Fair Trading, the private certifier, builder and the vendors solicitor trying to get hold of the certificate. They didn't keep me up to date with proceedings. They made no apologies, but many excuses. It was only through my countless phone calls, sleepless nights and queries to Fair Trading that I managed to receive the Occupancy Certificate.
