Lily Blacks
Lily Blacks is a stylish bar decked out in period decor, which exudes the warm ambience Melbourne bar-dwellers love. Located in popular Myers Place, its approach to cocktails is focused, resulting in unique, powerful and fun concoctions. Food plates to share feature international influences, ensuring you are well fueled for staying there late into the night.
This place has got that speak-easy thing going on. Meyers Place has really captured the laneway cultural scene and Lily Blacks is slotting right in. It oozes 1920s Hollywood jazz lounge and is seriously committed to making great cocktails. If cashed up post-pay day, the Fin Du Monde is a lush combination of Hennessy XO and Pol Roger champagne but the drinks menu pick has to be the elegant apple martini. I’ve come down to this part of Melbourne a couple of times, though since it does tend to get pretty crowded on a Friday night I tend to leave my visits until a little earlier in the week. Lily Blacks is basically a cocktail bar, though straight out not really a place that I would consider ‘my scene’. However despite the huge numbers of spirits behind the bar, and the multitude of cocktails available for purchase, the place does have some nice beers on tap, and craft beers at that. The other thing is that on weeknights this place does tend to be fairly quiet, and has a really lovely atmosphere as well. While it isn’t a place that I would visit all that often, and does tend to be a little out of my way, it is still a nice bar to visit, especially if you are looking for some place a little quieter that your standard pubs.
This is a fun art-deco pokey cocktail bar that is a favourite among the corporate crowd in the paris end of Collins. Its tucked away in Meyers place and has great seating and standing sections for groups of all different sizes. Service was just ok but they have an amazingly long and creative cocktail list. Great selection of beers and ciders on tap now. They have pretzels on the menu to compliment your drinks.
I was there about 2 weeks ago on a Sunday and there was an event called Iron Bartender. Mad cocktails were made with a secret ingredient, CORN??! Apparently this event is on there all through summer. Apart from the weirdness, they also do classics well, and a really damn good Old Fashioned.
