A great place for lunch while on a work trip to Melbourne - the London Tavern had great sized meals with plenty of options. $10 burgers at lunch is hard to beat, but I enjoyed the Malaysian chicken curry with steamed rice, though thought was a little expensive at $21 for a pub curry. Friendly and quick service.
Well, another pub called the London Tavern – that's one in each of Brisbane, Sydney, and Adelaide. I'd have to say out of all the three this is probably my favourite (though the one on Adelaide does bring back lots of memories, and the one in Sydney isn't all that bad). Okay, the pub looks pretty plain on the inside but it has a pretty massive beer garden out the back, which I think adds a lot of character to the place. Okay, it probably isn't one of my favourite pubs in Melbourne, but it's still pretty cool. It does tend to draw a pretty large crowd, despite it being somewhat out of the way, but I've always managed to find a seat out the back. I do occassionally go out of my way to visit it every so often.
This is a traditional pub with some decent food and a nice beer garden. It gets very crowded- pretty much like all pubs in the area during football season as it's a hop, skip and a jump to the MCG. Take the train- it's near the station and traffic is hell towards the end of the week. Try the chicken wings; the perfect accompaniment to a nice beer.
Great central location when you want to catch up with friends, especially before a footy game. Very good, relaxed atmosphere and very friendly customer service.
The venue has great beer garden and you can also sit inside by the fire.
Food is nice, prices are reasonable, would go back again.
