Longrain Restaurant
Longrain Restaurant
The concept is from Sydney but the space has a distinctive Melbourne edge to it – due to the heritage building, hip atmosphere and welcoming, friendly service. Since opening in November 2005 in an old stable building near Punch Lane, Melburnians have been streaming through the doors to see what all of the fuss is about. John Van Haandel and his successful team at The Prince along with Martin Boetz, internationally acclaimed chef and author, and Sam Christie, an award winning sommelier, have joined forces to create this unique venue. The bar is the focal point of the space and cleverly divides the restaurant space from the relaxed cocktail lounge. Longrain takes lunch bookings but not dinner bookings so the best way to ensure a table is to arrive early, place your name on the waiting list, enjoy a 'Bloody Longrain'cocktail or two in the lounge and then make your way to a communal table to enjoy Martin Boetz's exceptional modern Thai / Asian influenced cuisine. Dishes are designed to share and are generous in size with the perfect balance of hot, sour, salty and sweet flavours that Thai food is renowned for. Function enquiries are welcome and if you don’t have the time to wait for a table why not order from the tempting bar menu – available all afternoon until late – the perfect solution for pre or post theatre ...read more

This place serves contemporary Thai food. It has a great feel and its food are reasonably priced. The place contains long tables which is great for sharing and if you are ever out with a group ofg friends then I suggest that you order a few different dishes from the menu with a view of sharing them for the ultimate experience.
Came here for a birthday dinner on a Saturday night. Love the vibe and customer service from start to finish. Good varieties of small and large dishes. We ordered 5 entrees and 4 mains to share. Their cocktails was also fresh and a great complement to our meals. Staff were really helpful and attentive. Make sure you book in advance as it gets full easily and make not get a seat.
It is always busy at Longrain but for good reason. It is a pretty chill fine dining place in a gorgeous area of Surry Hills. The food is delicious and it isn't too packed in or loud so that you can't hear the person you are sitting next to. I found the service to be quite slow and they wanted the table so were trying to move us on quite quickly but that didn't really matter too much because it was a nice place to sit and enjoy, plus the food was worth the wait.
Long Grain is a great restaurant experience. The South East Asian inspired food here was delicious. We went here for my friends 30th birthday and as we had a group of 10 we opted for the banquet dinner menu and enjoyed every aspect of it. Everything was so flavourful and the signature betel leaf and river trout starter was my favourite. The dessert platter was a delight and the sago pudding was my favourite. They also have an extensive drinks menu with South-East Asian inspired cocktails. The service was friendly and attentive. Would definitely come back here for a special occasion and have no complaints.
