Well, the first thing that I have to make mention, at the insistence of my friends, is the customer service that they received. They ordered steak and read wine pies and landed up with chicken pies instead. Okay, they weren't particularly fussed, and were more than happy to eat them, but one of my friends kindly pointed out to the waitress the problem. After a sincere apology they had an offer to change their dishes, but they were happy to eat the chicken pie. However, the staff then went above and beyond and got them all a free drink anyway. As such I do have to recommend this place for the service that they received, but it isn't a bad pub anyway. It does get a little crowded, but my friends were smart enough to reserve a table. I had a steak sandwich (something I regularly eat) and I have to say it wasn't bad either.
After reading various reviews looking for a good quality parma, I was impressed with the reviews for Lord Newry Hotel, and luckily enough it happened to be Tuesday, where they had a special on the parmas. However, I was rather disappointed with the overall parma, the crumb was very ordinary and not crunchy. The chicken was not very thick, but the overall size was decent. And finally the sauce tasted like it came from a can. My friends had the burger which was too dry, and the bread to content ratio was too great. I wouldn't come back and neither would I recommend this pub unfortunately. The service on the other hand was good, the staff were friendly, the dining area was plentiful and the outdoor seating area on the street provided a nice area to relax and unwind.
The Newry is my local pub, it has a great following of locals of all ages. great for a game of pool and a few cold ones. The staff are hip and friendly, best people i have met in a pub in ages!
