Lucia's Pizza & Spaghetti Bar
Homestyle cooking and a love of fine food have made this restaurant an Adelaide institutionA South Australian institution, Lucia's opened in 1957 and the original owner, Lucia Rosella, was the first to serve pizza to Adelaide diners. Home style Italian cooking, great coffee and a legacy based on a passion for food that has been kept alive by Lucia's daughters, Nicci and Maria, are the reasons that this restaurant is still so popular half a century on. Pasta mixed with their famous sauces, Osso Bucco with polenta, traditional lasagna and a selection of mouth watering pizzas are the favoured choices by the loyal regulars.

Really? Decided to try this place as a result of the overwhelming number of good reviews all over the various foodie sites. Although the place was packed out, we should have realised it was a mistake before we even sat down when we noted that there wasn't a single diner there that looked even remotely European. Always a bad omen if you're offering Mediterranean cuisine, and not one diner there looks Mediterranean. Ordered Spaghetti Al Vongole for both myself and my wife, with a bottle of S. Pellegrino for the tidy sum of $43.40. Not bad, considering the Spaghetti was poor quality packet pasta you can get in any supermarket, and the tomato sauce was poured out of a caterer's tin, before it may have spent no more than a few minutes in a pot to warm it up. My dish was served almost as a soup, with the pasta swimming around in a watery red concoction. After questioning the consistency of the sauce, the dish was returned to me, with most of the watery ...read more
I was wandering the markets hungry and trying to decide what to have for lunch. I walked past Lucia's and saw a sign saying "Meatball Provolone Panini". I then saw a line out the door. I joined the line. While in the line I saw a variety of rolls being sliced open and loaded with delicious meats and cheeses. I stuck with my original decision and ordered the meatballs. Yum. I will be back for one of their other freshly made rolls though.
I was in the city for an early doctor's appointment, so afterwards decided to go to the Central market for breakfast. I decided on Lucia's, having heard good things.
I ordered the standard breakfast dish of scrambled eggs, bacon, tomato and mushrooms with toast, and a weak caffe latte. The coffee was bitter, and tasted burnt; I didn't bother drinking it after taking a couple of sips
The dish came out with 2 very ordinary slices of wholemeal bread (where's my nice slices of Italian bread?), scrambled eggs that would have barely covered one slice of bread, but stretched out over the 2 slices, and covered in packet "cracked" pepper (the stuff that comes in little sachets), 1 rasher of bacon cut in half, 1 small tomato halved, and a pile of black, awful smelling ...read more
Breakfast, lunch or dinner - all options will satisfy and so very cheap to!!! Love the atmosphere particularly on a Friday Night. This place is always so full, you may have to wait for a seat but it's definitely worth it. Go for the $1 upgrade for the main meal and feast on a large bowl of home made pasta and bolognese sauce.
