We got lucky with an amazing Prep teacher and grade 1 teacher (who both happened to be cousins). Once they left the school we saw the impact the deputies had on the school and it was miserable. My daughter was one of the most popular children in her grade and yet we found a lot of the children lacked basic social skills. I saw on many occassions the teachers speak to the children horribly. It was a good school academically however we were able to find a few schools with similiar results without all the repetitive homework (30 mins a day in prep alone). Also if you raised ANY issues no matter how serious with the deputies they will literally tell you that they have a long waiting list and tell you they dont have time to talk. It's amazingly uptight and uncaring in many ways.
We made a mistake and we got out. If you only care about academics send your child here. If you care about their happiness and social skills then look elsewhere.
Absolutely terrible. We sent our kids there for 4 days and had to find them a new school. The teachers had no control over the kids during class time - they would loudly chat in different language despite the teachers asking them to speak in English. And no, they were not new to Australia but fluent in English. A travesty that this happens, esp in the early years of prep and grade 3.
Before you enrol your kids here, think again. You can get a good display of the poor behaviour and manners the students have if you visit the adjacent shopping centre around 3pm Mon - Fri. They have no regard for others, particularly grown-ups.
Look for other schools - don't risk your kids' education here.
Hi, I'm looking at schools in the area and just wondering if you found success with another school close by. I get a similar feeling about the kids' manners and behavior, but I see it from kids from all public schools, not just MacGregor SS.
Try some of the smaller schools in the area... They seem to have a much firmer grip on behavioural issues, from my experience. Good luck!!
