As an employee from Melbourne who has been in Sydney for two years due to work related reasons, I thought any 10kg bag of rice would be the same in most places. To my surprise, the same bag costing ~$23-28 in other places was almost double at $40 upon arrival on the counter - note prices were NOT marked on shelf. This is a far comparison from even the few other asian grocers within 1-5km radius such as that within Castle Mall or Baulkham Hills or even that compared to my previous shopping region of Pacific Square in Maroubra.
Sure, I could accept that the store rental is dear within Castle Towers. HOWEVER, upon opening the rice bag, I find it crawling with small insects. These insects were also revealed upon retrieving the bag from the rack. I should've suspected earlier. ...read more
Visited Madam Hoo on the weekend and they had a great selection of fresh asian vegetables. From Bok Choy to Gai Lan, the fresh veges started to draw a crowd. The registers are at the front, but it is a tight space so this is supermarket is more ideal for small shops. They have spices, pastes, and their noodle selection is pretty good with multiple brands for hokkien, rice and egg noodles which are located at the back of the store.
This is the main asian supermarket in castle towers and though it is only a small store it has all the basic asian cooking essentials, from fresh rice noodles to wontons and dumplings. I have been going here for years and find it very convenient. Try some of the fresh asian veges at the front!
