Madison Hotel
Step into the jungle when you enter The Madison Hotel in Surry Hills. This pub and restaurant is famously known for its animal prints including leopard and zebra skin motifs. The fake crocodile that is crawling up the wall above the bar adds to the theme. Upstairs in the aptly named Hippo Lounge, you can order from the extensive cocktail list. Meanwhile, the bistro menu offers a range of traditional pub fare, with a Modern Australian twist. If you are a sports enthusiast, watch a game on one of the large plasma screens.

There is one thing that is really cool about this pub and that is the painting on the ceiling. It basically looked like it is a gateway into another world where some animals are looking down onto us (and not surprisingly it is directly above the pool table). Both times I've been here it's been rather quiet, but it has a pretty nice atmosphere, and since it isn't hugely crowded like some of the other pubs it the area it makes for a really nice place to sit with a beer and read a book, or play a game of pool with some mates. It has a restaurant upstairs as well as a balcony for smokers (though the balcony is pretty dark at night). I quite like this place, and as I have suggested, the mural of the ceiling is a pretty cool touch.
There is a new cook i think and things have been going downhill over the past few weeks. The last two steak orders had to be sent back for extra cooking, so today i thought i'd try the Lasagne from the special boards. 40 minutes later it came out FROZEN inside!
Despite the food, the bar staff are great.
