This place is a bit on an institution in Parramatta. I go there for breakfast sometimes, and the food is OK but nothing exceptional. You have to order at the counter which I think should be table service at breakfast time as customers don't feel like moving about much at that time of day, and they are not that busy anyway so it appears lazy.
On the up side, credit to them for supporting artists (there are often different art works up on the wall for sale) and being one of only a few live music venues left in Sydney.
Ventured out on a cool autumn morning and landed at Mars Hill Cafe for a light lunch. My friend ordered a flat white and a steak sandwich and raved about both. I ordered a chai latte (strong, I said) and the garlic prawns and was a little less than thrilled. I have a sweet tooth, but the chai was way too sweet, to the point where I couldn't drink it all. The garlic prawns were served in a cute little french oven but were terribly bland so I went up to get some salt & pepper shakers. A few herbs, some seasoning & a shot of spice would've made them really come alive, but they were just soaked in garlic out of a jar and olive oil. A little disappointed. Aside from the food, the atmosphere was chilled and the music was great. I'd love to check this place out in the PM coz I hear it has an excellent music scene!
