This Cafe was the winner of the prestigious , NSW Southern Breakfast Restaurant Award for year 2011, returning we found the standard, and service had not changed, the culinary emphasis is still fresh, organic, locally produced food, in a warm friendly atmosphere. Dull - gold walls and polished wooden floors, with an amazing array of colourful art works all painted by co owner Paul, dark olive squabs covered with a assorted of interesting cushions, compliment the tables and chairs of mixed metal, vinyl, wood and marble. An alcove in one wall contains various bottles of wine, glasses etc., while the spotless stainless steel kitchen is also on display, completing a charming unique decor.
All the breads of sour dough, unbleached flour baguettes etc. are produced on the premises from local organic ...read more

Just lunched at Mates Gully and if stale salmon is your idea of a good dining experience then this is the place for you. If you send your dish back you will be told that the wait staff and other diners have not complained. The chef does not eat fish and has no opinion on the matter. I think they should purchase some Tasmanian salmon from Coles or Woolworths, it will be fresher and have much more flavour. I do not return a dish unless I think it is truly just not up to scratch. I was mortified that my complaint would be treated in this manner. Not much going on in the way of customer service on 6/6/2012.

I am not normally into organics, however begrudgingly on a recommendation of a friend I went there with my family of a vacation. We had breakfast there, I was really surprised on the menu choice and pricing (cheaper than I had thought). My 20 month old was hungry and started to cry, the owner of the shop brought a sliced peach for him minutes after entering the store. The service was incredible. I would go there again and recommend even those not into organics to visit this place and give it a go.

This Cafe was the winner of the prestigious , NSW Southern Breakfast Restaurant award for 2011. This is a highly, competitive, competition to win. The cafe is centrally located, light bright and modern. The walls are adorned with delightful eccentric paintings, by owner, artist, organic farmer, Paul Nolte.
Marcia McCoy innovative gourmet chef, has made this "A Cafe of Class"
On our arrival we were greeted and made to feel welcome, understandable the cafe was really busy, but the vibe was chatty, friendly, relaxing. The breakfast was the best my wife and I have ever had, this includes France. The food being fresh local organic, and prepared so beautifully, was very tasty, immediately understood why they won the award. The food, service and ambience is world class. This restaurant is a destination. Also has boutique accommodation available. A must visit.
