A new trendy asian fusion cafe in Surry Hills. There was an hour wait when we went last Sunday, but it ended up just being 30 minutes. They take your contact details so you can wander around while waiting but don't wander too far as they only reserve the table for 5 minutes from when they SMS you. I ordered the lobster congee and unfortunately it was not worth the $28. The lobster tail was over cooked, and I did not appreciate the fake crab roll. The congee itself could've had more seasoning like soy sauce, chilli or pepper. I also tried the breakfast bowl with miso chicken and barley. For those that don't like tough grains, I would not recommend. The dashi broth was not bad, but was prominently just soy sauce, lacking that strong umami flavour.
They had a good mix of vegetables and a soft poached egg, but the dong gu (winter mushrooms) were not soaked for long enough and still had that dried ...read more
This fairly new Cafe has trendy and elegant decor throughout.
Their Asian-fusion dishes are unique, plated beautifully and delicious! Great coffee too.
Some of the dishes I’ve had: Lobster congee, avo & rye with poached egg, a bowl and matcha french lava toast. All are distinctly tasty. Especially the matcha french lava toast, definitely a must try dish!
Meet Mica has setup their space about a 5 minute walk from Central Station. Everything about Meet Mica is about quality. The fit-out is excellent, with light bathing the dining area. Decorative copper piping and oak finishes on the La Maz really do it really give off a polished feel to the space. On the food front, the menu is oozing with deliciousness. Lobster congee is a highlight. A whole tail is used with each serving, resulting in just about the best congee I have tasted. Little sandwich bento boxes are cute and filled with delightful offerings. Coffee is excellent, featuring perfect cups of milk based coffee and filter coffee with a rotation of Australia's best roasters.
The beautiful Mica looks a little flustered. Her fledgling foray into the café world is lacking both head chef and head barista on the Tuesday I visit. This year’s flu season has been especially brutal. Every table in her eponymous Surry Hills café – Meet Mica – is full, with a queue of people waiting.
Mica, who has a Cantonese background, has chosen a largely Japanese aesthetic for this venture. She explained it's because she’s “very impressed by the way Japanese people treat their food (dedication and freshness).” Mica has left the finer details in the hands of Chef Lee. Lee is Le Cordon Bleu trained, with work experience stints in famous kitchens including InterContinental Sydney, Tetsuya's and Kensington Street Social. His resulting café menu certainly ...read more
Chef Lee presents an asian inspired brunch both aesthetically pleasing and rich in flavour and tecnique. Couched in the character of Mica herself, she creates a casual warmth with her team for this casual venue on Elizbath Street. Walk-ins only, so be prepared to wait a little as there have been queues over the last few days - but it will be worth it.
The Spicy Crab & Rice Noodle is a treasure trove of fresh crab meat, tofu, buk choy, silver fish crunch and rice noodles dressed with a house made spicy chilli jam and definitely one of the highlights. I'm not a porridge and oatmeal kind of person, however, it was the roasted almond and coconut foam that redefine my old ...read more
