I should point out that if you want a seat you really do need to get hear early because there have been numerous times that I have walked past and there is a line outside. Then again, it is a Swanston Street restaurant and that seems to be a regular occurrence here. Still, this is a pretty decent place for a cheap meal, and they bring it out quite promptly as well.
This place serves traditional Vietnamese food. I ordered a broken rice dish the other day and I thought their pork steak was average. It was a tad over cooked for my liking and the rice seemed a little dry. I would probably order something else next time when I visit here. I also thought that their service was average as they were a bit slow in taking my order and delivering my food.
Love the food and speed of service. By the time the waiters take the order electronically, the kitchen put all the components together of the pho or whatever other food you are ordering and it seems to almost teleport to the table. Oh and prices are great. Can't wait for my next trip to Melbourne...
This place has been around for as long as I can recall working out in the city in my early days. They are well known for their traditional Vietnamese Pho Broth soup. Theyre open daily and been on the main hub of Melbourne CBD, they are often very busy and attracting locals, business people, tourist, or those simply passing by. Service is fast and efficient. Often you will find that you may need to cram up and sit next to 2 other complete strangers to fill up rooms. However, the type of meals that you would ideally eat at this place would be a bowl of rice, bowl of Pho soup that will often come out with minutes of ordering. Prices are decent and well set for the CBD. They have been also known for their famous celebrity in the past, like Jackie Chan. When Im after a quick bite, have often come here, not one of my personal favourite thought for Vietnamese cuisines.
Pretty much every Melbourne local knows about this place, an establishment in the city that is famous for its beef noodle soup- Vietnamese Phò. Be prepared to eat in a crowded hot setting, busy with people even at 3pm. The walls are adorned with 90's photos of old Chinese celebrities who have eaten at the restaurant. I shared a table with about 4 other people and I think it was the 'singles' table, where people eating alone were seated. I order beef and meatballs, and the food came out quickly. A small bowl is $9.50 and a medium $10.50. The noodles were delicious, the soup was bit as flavoursome as I would have liked but it was satisfying. Expect quick service, without a smile, they are busy people... Come here for a quick and casual meal!
