Melbourne Food & Wine Festival

The Melbourne Food and Wine Festival offers entertainment and a carnival-like atmosphere with regional cuisines to try out and lots of interesting things to try. There are cooking classes (although they can be quite expensive) and MFWF events scattered all over Melbourne. Events do book out quickly, especially wine-related ones and I would recommend taking public transport. The restaurant express offer of $40 for two courses plus wine is good value at participating restaurants.
