The house 'speciality', "chocolate" pizza, isn't even a pizza- just bread sticks with chocolate on top. Yuk!!
Without a doubt one of the WORST dining experiences in 20 years!!

Excellent Pizza and Service!!!! I had there wood fire pizza and now I'm in love with it. The best you can get it in Melbourne.

Really enjoyed the vibe here, the food was great too :) Pricing was fair. I had the calabrese pizza which was a great size with just enough topping, Carlos was very funny with lots of tricks :P Fun place for the fam

The pizzas were nice, and there was a large selection of them. Though the pizzas we ordered that were supposed to have chili on them, didn't.
The staff were friendly, but a bit complacent. We had to remind them a few times what we ordered.
Service was on the slow side, but as much can be expected for dinner on Lygon St. :)
We tried their popular "Dessert Pizza"; it was nice, be we all agreed that their sticky date pudding was better, and quite delicious.
I would consider going again if I were in the mood for pizza, and had plenty of time. :)

This is a GREAT Italian restaurant, I have to say ! Normally the others Italian restaurants in Melbourne don't suit my taste since they put too much salt in their foods, but with Mercadante, it's different. They use traditional wood fire to make the pizza and you can even watch their chef making the pizza [I have to say that it's really like you're in a circus, haha]. The pasta is good as well, especially the Pollo spaghetti, because they don't use much cream [or maybe no cream at all] but egg yolks to cook the sauce. One more thing, their desserts are AWESOME which can satisfy even the most fastidious customers :X The only thing I don't like is that the place is a bit small and when it's crowded, the whole place become very noisy and hot.
