Meredith House at Swansea on Tasmania’s east coast offers heritage accommodation in a beautiful 1853 home. The 11 ensuite rooms in the convict built Georgian-style National Trust-classified house are decorated in warm, period colours and furnished with antique and hand-crafted red cedar furniture. There are sweeping views over the historic seaside village of Swansea, and Great Oyster Bay to the Freycinet Peninsula. Wide verandas provide cool shade and the house is surrounded by an extensive garden, with native plants, bright flowers and fruit trees. Adjacent to the main house there are four newer self-contained mews-style studio apartments, three with spas.The town itself is home to the Swansea Bark Mill Museum, which highlights the heritage of the region and several excellent restaurants to showcase the produce of the area.
