After sampling their cakes on several occasions, I must admit to being utterly baffled at how Michel's has succeeded in opening such an epidemic of franchises. Despite looking appetising at a glance, their sweet pastries are reliably tasteless; a signature combination of oversweet and stale. I especially caution prospective visitors against their wilted tarts with rubbery filling, and caramel slices that could withstand a jackhammer. That said, their coffee is decent, their staff are friendly, their tables are clean and their prices are comparable to other cake shops. However, this counts for very little when ones fork will not pierce the skin on the top of ones custard tart.
