Middle Park Hotel
Julian Gerner and Paul Wilson combine to create one of Melbourne's best gastropubsThe Middle Park Hotel is a contemporary yet relaxed pub in Middle Park that mixes a comfortable lounge area, sports bar and a sophisticated dining room. Having undergone a recent overhaul by restauranteur Julian Gerner in conjunction with Six Degrees design team and renowned chef Paul Wilson, the Middle Park has been elevated to greatness. Head chef David Marshall, ex Botanical, serves up a menu full of hearty retro favourites - think Scotch eggs and house made fish fingers - and with a section of the menu dedicated to 'steaks, chops, offal and sausages' what meat lover wouldn't be salivating?
Reminiscent of the MCC Long Room, this retro-British style pub has a blokey feel to it – dark woodpanelled walls, deer antler chandelier, loads of sporting memorabilia and a menu full of hearty dishes listed under headers such as ‘steaks, chops, offal and sausages’. Make no mistake though – this is quality fodder, expertly prepared by head chef, David Marshall, and guided by consulting chef, Paul Wilson, whose name is synonymous with some of Melbourne's best dining establishments such as Radii and The Botanical. Really enjoyed a great working lunch feed at the Middle Park Hotel.
The servings were generous and incredibly filling.
Loved my chicken bourguignon and the $20 steak special was perfect too.
Lots of seating options, lounges and separate bar area for drinks.
Friendly and attentive staff - highly recommended.
Since becoming The Middle Park Hotel the quality of food has improved a great deal. Had a meal there the other night and there was nothing we could fault. Excellent Cheff, Excellent menu and Excellent wine list. Service was great and HUGE improvment when it was known as the Gunn Island Inn.
Well done to "whoever" has taken over.
I'm coming back!
Initially my mother's group had been welcomed to use the back room of the hotel to meet once a week for an hour or two, but with a change of management we were rudely accosted, "What are you lot doing here?!" and told we were not welcome because we didn't buy enough and "this is not a creche". We were never any trouble and did buy drinks and food here and there, and our children were well out of the way of the bar area. We found it highly innappropriate to be kicked out so abruptly, with no manners, when we had never disturbed anybody.
We found the new management to be extremely rude, and many of us had used this bar regularly outside of mother's group, with other local friends but will never do so again.
The MPH has changed hands twice since this mother group were using it as a child minding/mothers meeting area but buying little from the hotel. Some people want something for nothing.
Excellent bar with plenty of good atmosphere. The staff are super friendly and helpful. There's a good selection of boutique beers on tap as well as the Gunn Islands own brew.
The crowd on a Friday night is mostly locals winding down for the week and the DJs are pretty reasonable.
