Remember when food was real? We do?Brisbane owned and family run cafe with a wink at milkbars of the past...when there was something for everyone...all day, every day. Wholesome food, organic breads, fresh salads, Merlo Coffee made on Barambah organic milk, AMAZING milk shakes, breakfast all day, seven days a week.
The owners John and Amanda Scott are the previous owners of The Continental Cafe in New Farm and Gerties. Having moved to Ashgrove four years ago, they were keen to run their latest business in their own community and offer Ashgrove something that added to the texture of the limited cafe culture in the area but also suited the locals.
Milk staff are locals, the organic Milk is from a local company, the organic bread is baked in Brisbane, the most amazing milk shake flavours (Irish Cream, Tiramisu and Coconut Pine) are made by Brisbane's own ALCHEMY CORDIAL COMPANY. Brisbane's own Merlo Coffee was
quoted as Ashgrove's coffee of choice over and over again. With a wide array of all day food offerings, Milk also offers gluten free cakes, gluten free hamburgers (made from scratch) gluten free salads, vegetarian sandwiches and flat breads every day.
With so many people needing to know exatly what they are eating and drinking these days the owners were determined to have a large range of items with no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. Milk Cafe is a staple coffee-on-the-way-to-the-clinic stop for the Niggles & Knots team. Its also almost too convenient for an afternoon tea after work. The range of gluten free sweets is impressive (and delicious!), they offer a variety of milks including Zymil for the lactose-intolerant (again impressive for a suburban cafe) and the BLT is a great brekky treat (try it with egg & avo, you won't be disappointed!), but the hot chips are the stand out, they are the best we've ever had :-D
P.S. have always found the staff there to be cheery, helpful, offer great service... one girl in particular has an awesome memory and can often recall what coffee I want, impressive given the amount of coffee orders she must take and people she must see every week! Also LOVE the e-coffee card service they offer, I wish every cafe and restaraunt did that, would definitely cut down on the loyalty cards in my wallet!
It was a pretty good milkshake. however friend had a coffee that wasn't as good and the service was a bit average. felt like i was bothering them
Sasha, I am horrified to hear this. Whilst we had a record day in terms of sales yesterda,y at all times when I checked in with our team, they felt that their customer service was up to scratch.

A must try for anyone looking for a great milkshake. They actually taste like the flavour you order, unlike so many places theses days...
The food is also pretty good and reasonably priced.
One of the things that stood out the most was the friendly staff. Some of the most polite staff I have encountered in a long time!
Highly recommended.
