Distinguished by Scandi-furniture and towering artworks, Monte Alto is a friendly eatery serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Set apart from the main Crows Nest restaurant hub, it's easy enough to get to by crossing at the set of lights at the Falcon Street/ Pacific Highway intersection.
Service is friendly and accommodating and in this day of "no variations to the menu", it was refreshing to find our request for a cheeseburger without the addition of onion and pickled carrots to be no problem.
The affogato was a great mid-morning pick me up, with the vanilla ice cream the perfect foil for the strong and slightly bitter coffee.
A nice cafe in Crows Nest that serves up unique coffees and nice brunch dishes. I like the Sir Benedict ($16) which is a toasted brioche bun topped with your choice of coffee rubbed roast pork, bacon, or smoked salmon with poached eggs, sauteed spinach, roasted cherry tomatoes and citrus hollandaise sauce. I choose the coffee rubbed roast pork which tastes flavoursome. The hollandaise sauce is light which is good as I sometimes find hollandaise sauce too heavy and rich.
It was a pleasure to come here both for the original soft launch and again after the official grand opening. The menu has changed slightly but the feelings of amazement and satisfaction after each meal remain. Harry now works out of the kitchen, but the menu still very much is his.
There's elements of Japanese, a strong presence of Italian and Australian, the quintessential Modern menu of this culinary diverse dining landscape we live in.

This new cafe only opened within the last month. Bright new fresh space, looks so clean, and the staff were efficient and doing a good job, not easy in the early days. My coffee was superb, no idea what the coffee beans was, the bane of the business suggests they do the roasting of the green beans, no idea where or how this is done. I also got a drag squeezed juice, yum. I didn't have time for breakfast, but the people at a nearby table did, and their food looked both colourful and delicious. In excited to return soon.
