Located on Sydney's picturesque harbour at Circular Quay, The Museum of Contemporary Art -- or MCA as it is also known -- is "Australia's only museum dedicated to exhibiting, interpreting and collecting contemporary art from across Australia and around the world."
Apart from regular exhibitions the MCA also has a cafe/restaurant, function spaces and the MCA store containing art books and much more.
See the website for information and current and upcoming exhibitions.
The grand dame of Sydney galleries is about to get a makeover. The $53 million upgrade of the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) will allow it to host larger and more diverse international exhibitions. I never get sick of visiting M.O.C.A. the installations and exhibitions are probably the most exciting of all Public Galleries in NSW. As well the views from the Sculpture Terrace over Circular Quay including the Opera House are spectacular, so well worth visiting on a beautiful day soaking up some culture and sunshine.
I love the fact that I work within walking distance of this Gallery. There's only one floor that is free to the general public and the rest is paid for. But it's nice to go in and just have a look as to what's being made. Not all exhibitions are amazing but some can definitely resonate with the viewer.
The location of the museum is perfectly positioned right on the water too so it's a nice walk to and fro the place.
I was here for vivid and, wow, it was amazing. The images projected onto the museum are incredible. The exhibiting space inside is also great. I was last inside for an amazing artist whose work was wholly illustration but in such a painstakingly dot-by-dot hand illustrated fashion (as if matrix printed).
It feels expansive which is nice. The curators are amazing putting exhibits in though provoking ways. Very good flow through too.
A beautiful Museum showcasing a diverse range of artists.
There's a huge light installation by an aboriginal artist and some other quirky pieces. Best of all is it is free! Come and get a fresh taste of culture while you take in the beauty of the Sydney Harbour foreshore.
