There are so many things we take for granted about the textiles and fibres we rely on for our clothing and with synthetics, it's easy to forget how incredibly important wool was to our national history and economy. It's an interesting museum and there are also many fascinating tidbits of information. Did you know dissolving a bit of lanolin and rinsing woollens in it after washing can improve the softness and lifespan of the fibre?
A great place to get a look in at the local and national industry of the days when Australia was 'riding on the sheeps back' - the museum covers all aspects of the wool industry, from farming and sheering, all the way to scouring, spinning and weaving (or knitting!). There are a couple of interactive displays and the volunteers are very helpful and knowledgeable. If your from out of town, I recommend buying the double ticket which covers your entry into the wool museum, as well as entry to the ford discovery centre.
