This maybe a small zoo but it has so much to offer without children feeling overwhelmed!! They offer activities for all ages and the staff were very friendly, informative and you can see how cared for the animals and their habitats are. I took my cousins one year old and she loved it, was safe for her to walk and explore, patted a dingo (look on their web site for times they are walked) obviously age restrictions on feeding the bear but we stood less than a meter next to the bear watching with only glass separating us made us feel involved. We will definitely visit again.
This is only a small zoo, but unique in that it offers a number of hands-on experiences. The ZooVenture tour is highly recommended, allowing participants to get up close and personal to a wide range of animals. If you'd like a bear licking honey from your hand or the opportunity to hand feed a lion (with tongs) or a giraffe, this tour is for you. And if you want a very memorable moment, you can't go past the 'Meet a Cheetah' experience. I'll never forget spending 15 minutes patting full-grown cheetahs - a must for all cat lovers!
I had a great experience of my life. I fed a Giraffe - one just does not appreciate how beautiful these animals are until it is seen up close and their gentle big tongue delicately takes the piece of carrot. They are lovely animals but the up-close experience is remarkable and highlights ones perspective. I held a snake. I was scared but I will never be again. It was fun. The zoo is kind as I am unwell and I used a wheelchair that day. They made it possible for my carer and I to enter and looked after me on the day giving me an experience I could not have imagined. It helped me cope with life because it gave me a taste of the beauty which is around us. The zoo has many attractions. There were tiny monkeys with babies on their backs. It was a great experience. It is a highlight of my life. Canberra is not a boring place as people suggest. I would recommend a holiday here and a trip to the zoo. Step outside a zone and try to be close to the animals as it is something to remember.
