Next Door Kitchen and Bar; a nod to the 1920s.
Tucked away in Brisbane's cultural South Bank, inspired by a time of speakeasies and a whirlwind of forbidden mischief. Next Door Kitchen and Bar is a combination of the fine art of mixing drinks and the fusion of good food and good times.

So many places to choose from along the South Bank strip, but I am so glad we chose 'Next Door' for a Sunday breakfast. We were greeted quickly and with a smile. Our drink and meals orders were taken quickly and served just as quickly. My dining partners all had the Eggs Benedict which came with smoked salmon. I chose the French toast, with lemon/orange curd, fresh berries and labna (aka: natural Greek yoghurt). OMG! It was delicious!! Would order it again. Coffees looked and tasted lovely. Prices were reasonable. Lovely location, we sat outside, so I can't comment on inside decor.
Very busy little place, but everything seemed to run like a well oiled machine.
Would definitely recommend!
Most restaurants that have duck on the menu, have me sold! The food was really great and well priced! The service was friendly and consistent.
I loved my 'high class hooker' gin cocktail and the food was fantastic.
Even the carrot salad went down a treat.
And watching the belly dancing next door was fun too.
Will definitely be back here!
After wandering along the restaurant strip at Southbank looking for somewhere to stop for dinner, my sister and I came across Next Door. We checked out the menu at the front of the restaurant and everything sounded great, including the prices. All the staff there are lovely, checking in often taking orders, bringing drinks, making sure meals are ok. We ordered Parmesan covered fries, the yummy heirloom carrot salad as side dishes. For our mains the twice cooked duck with white bean ragout, pancetta & spiced sausage and the sumac spiced calamari with chickpea curry, onion crisps & coriander salsa. Needless to say the food was AMAZING! We had a great time & the decor at the restaurant is lovely too. Well worth a visit.
Ever been tempted to enter a restaurant because a customer with a clean plate calls out you while he catches you starting at the street-board menu? Me either. Until now, "Try the pepper led beef." He said. And that I did. Because that is how I do.
It's good. The peppered beef... is actually fantastic. Really distinct light flavours from the beef, the artichokes and the potato. It was a meal you could eat a couple of times in a row without feeling anything but satisfied.
If a semi sour cocktail with elaborate ingredients does it for you, try the Apple & cinnamon Bellini. For some reason I expected this to be sweet and made gentle by bubbly... Nup. It was tangy and a little bit more texture heavy than taste heavy. This given by puree' apple I suppose.
Service was fast and time taken between ordering and receiving the meal was ideal.
