I thoroughly enjoyed my tour of the gorges and thought Katherine Gorge and Edith Falls were both amazing! The scenery is so vast and awe-inspiring. The rock art is amazing too, much better in real life. Tours in this part of Australia and many other remote parts tend to be expensive and this is no exception but it's very worthwhile as you get a richer feel for the area. The food provided wasn't great but was adequate for the lunch. You need to be in the right mood as the tours take many hours and travelling times are long.
we did the "3 gorge boat cruise" with this Katherine river gorge touring company. prices are a bit expensive (adults $95 and children $47) especially for a family and considering the amount of people on the tour with you) . tour goes for about 3.5-4 hours and includes some basic walking, swimming in a water hole/fall, lunch, guided commentary, looking an aboriginal art work and lunch (which was basically just mainly unhealthy snacks- limited amount of assorted cream biscuits, apples and museli bars) rather than a wholesome lunch. there was at least 100 people on out the tour with a full boat (not during the peak season). tour guides are very knowledgeable. we would have preferred to canoe the gorge ourselves but unfortunately they would not allow canoe tours with children as young as 3-4 years.
